Ministries

 

 

Christ the King Lutheran Church has many active ministry groups. Through these groups we reach out to the community and to one another in order to allow God's work to be done though our hands and hearts. These ministry groups consist of;

 

Shawl Ministry

The Shawl Ministry has sent out hundreds of prayerfully made items since its inception in 2006. Our shawls and lap blankets have been blessed and sent to nursing homes, schools and hospitals. We regularly send knitted caps to the cancer centers in the Columbia area. Fundraisers are held to raise money for the local charities.

 

Community Outreach

This team identifies, oversees and coordinates outreach ministries in our community. Christ the King has an active presence in our community through congregation sponsored projects and individuals voluntarism.

 

Melting Pot

This group meets the first Thursday of each month for lunch in the fellowship hall. A wide variety of programs and activities are offered at each luncheon. Participation is not limited to members of the congregation.

 

Christian Formation

This team coordinates the Christian formation ministry of the congregation and works to insure biblical and theological soundness. Christ the King offers three different bible studies for adults on Sunday mornings and during the week. Wednesday nights in September and throughout Lent are devoted to special study topics.

 

Women of the E.L.C.A.

The Women of the ELCA at Christ the King supports the state wide organization with quarterly offerings, thank offerings and other gifts. These offerings aide women and children Through out the world. The Women of the ELCA have purchased a cow and chickens through the Heifer Foundation to teach and help the impoverished to raise and grow their own food. WELCA here at Christ the King sponsors a holiday dinner for the congregation, desert auctions and other various fund raisers to help in the community where needed. WELCA meets the second Thursday of each month at 11:00 am, please join us, all women are welcome.

 

Lutheran Men in Mission

The primary mission of South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission is to strengthen the spiritual development and witness of men and to provide financial and other support to mission congregations in the South Carolina Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The congregational units are the backbone of South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission. LMM units are the grass roots of South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission. They provide the organizations, funds , and participation to the conference and synod levels. Their programs are wide and varied and include Bible study, guest speakers, Lutheran Men Sunday, service projects, etc. We are always looking for new members to join us in our mission.

 

Other Outreach Ministries

Other ministries include a Multiple Sclerosis Support Group that meets each fourth Monday at 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Christ the King is home to Cub Scout Pack 400 and Boy Scout Troop 400. During the school year, Midlands Girl Scout leaders meet the second Tuesday of each month.

Disciples of Christ the King also volunteer their time and energy at the Dorn VA Medical Center, the Richland County Guardian ad Litem program, at nursing homes and local hospitals, neighborhood associations, and for Lutheran Family Services.
